Questions to Ask Your Insurer Before Treatment Abroad

Get clear on what is covered, what to confirm and how to avoid surprises.

A little clarity first

Ask your insurer to confirm your specific journey and proposed treatment in writing. Travel insurance and planned treatment cover can differ; do not assume that one covers the other.

Describe the purpose of your trip

Tell the insurer that you are considering travel for a planned hospital visit or treatment. Ask about exclusions, pre-existing conditions and any approval required before booking. Confirm whether complications related to the planned care fall within the policy.

Understand payment and documentation

Ask whether you pay first and claim later, which documents are needed and whether the proposed hospital is eligible. A hospital’s ability to help with an insurance enquiry is not confirmation that your claim will be paid. Keep the insurer’s written response.

Check the rest of the journey

Ask about changes to travel dates, extended stays, companions and assistance if something goes wrong. Record the emergency contact and claims process. The insurer makes the coverage decision; Ter2You can help coordinate questions but cannot guarantee approval.
